Pentlands CLP 17th March Meeting
All are very welcome at our meeting on Thursday 17th March at 19:30 in Pentland Community Centre, Oxgangs Brae, EH13 9LS.
Fighting Low Pay and Precarious Employment
Increasing numbers of workers, especially young people, are finding that the only work they can get is in precarious employment (such as on Zero Hours contracts) with scandalously low pay rates, Traditionally these jobs are in unorganised workplaces.
The March meeting of Edinburgh Pentlands CLP will feature speakers from Better Than Zero and USDAW. We’ll hear about the problems of reaching out to workers in retail, catering and other low pay sectors and getting them to join a union. Better Than Zero, with the support of the STUC, have shown the way by staging innovative and successful campaigns against employers such as Sports Direct and G1in Glasgow. Now they are expanding their activities to Edinburgh and they need our solidarity and practical support to challenge low pay employers in this city.
The venue is on the 16, 27 and 4 bus routes (get off at Oxgangs Library and the Community Centre is two minutes walk). Parking is freely available in the area.
