Every week, we’ll try to keep you updated with local events – public meetings, strikes, occupations, marches, protests, elections and so on. We might also throw in some cultural goings-on, too. If you know of an event that we’ve missed out, please let us know: momentumedinburgh [at] gmail [dot] com
Dont miss the third Momentum Edinburgh meeting on Wednesday – details below!
Scottish Football Against Apartheid- Edinburgh Meeting
David Hume Tower 19.00 – 20.30
The campaign of Scottish Football Against Apartheid centres around uniting football clubs and nations against Zionism and Israeli war crimes, focusing on sanctions against sporting teams and associations.Seeing as the SFA have a chance to vote to remove Israel’s status as a member of FIFA, it’s a great chance to inflict a blow on Netanyahu and co. The first meeting will be a chance to meet fellow comrades and sort out the formalities etc. Going to get a lecture theatre booked so a good turmout would be great!
19.00 Playfair Library
This year we have been running a campaign focusing on raising awareness of mental health issues and reducing the disparity between mental and physical health. We are also promoting some of the key themes of mental health first aid – we wish to equip the student community with practical skills to provide support for their fellow students who might be experiencing mental illnesses.
G.05 50 George Square 18.00 – 20.00
Chaplaincy 19.15 – 21.00
Each society will provide a point of view on the debate and then we’ll open it up for wider discussion with Urte Macikene (EUSA VP of Services) contributing with what EUSA is doing with relation to sustainable animal agriculture.
19.00 – 21.30 David Hume Tower LG.09
This is our third meeting, where we will hear reports from the working groups, discuss politics and some campaign ideas, and hopefully have more of a social atmosphere as well. If you’d like to be added to our mailing list, please email momentumedinburgh [at] gmail [dot] com.
Big EUSA Gaylidh!
20.00 – 0.00 Teviot Debating Hall
EUSA’s annual Gaylidh is an opportunity to let your hair down & enjoy a traditional Scottish ceilidh with a queer twist. There’s no dress code so wear whatever makes you feel good (but make sure you bring some comfy shoes!).
NO2BrandIsrael at the Scottish Parliament
11.00 Scottish Parliament
The Scottish Parliament will be debating a motion from Tory MSP Jackson Carlaw opposing the cultural boycott of Israel. The motion attacks the Palestinian civil society’s call for BDS and has been signed by Tory, Lib Dem, Labour and SNP MSPs. It is a feeble attempt at whitewashing Israel’s oppression of the Palestinian people and their culture.
Scottish PSC will be there to tell the truth about what is happening to Palestinians and their culture. For more information on our campaign go to www.no2brandisrael.org and come along and join us at the Scottish Parliament from 11.00am to 2.00pm on 25 February.
